My name is Nikki Medlin & I want to tell you a little bit about me.
I started playing guitar at the age of 11 years old. As a kid I loved The Beatles, Queen, Journey, Led Zeppelin & all the classic rock bands of the time. When my Grandfather came to visit one day & noticed my interest in music, he took the old guitar we had lying around the house & drove all over town looking for the replacement parts it needed to be up & running again. Thanks to my Grandfather I had my first guitar.
My mother found me a teacher & after several weeks my parents noticed I was not practicing! So they dropped my lessons! I wanted to play, but I just did not want to do the work! So I figured out fast that if I wanted to start rocking I better stop all the jive talking & get down to business! So I did.
Over the years I studied with some of LA's best guitar players. I joined my first band at the age of 13. We played Hendrix & Prince covers & wrote our own originals too! We played at schools & parties for our friends & I was hooked!
Through my teens & 20's I continued to play in clubs around town & going on small tours for pay when I was hired out for gigs. As I continued to further my musical knowledge, I was studying music at Pierce College, taking classical guitar classes, by day & continuing my private studies with different teachers to focus on my first love, ROCK!
I started teaching myself when I was in my early 20's. My teacher at the time was going out of town & wanted me to sub his students! I was excited & ready
to go for it. The day I taught for my old teacher went very well. So well that the owner of the store asked me if I wanted to start teaching there & have my own students! I think it goes without saying, I took the job.
Now, years later, I am 43 years old & I have been teaching for years. I love it!
I get to meet new people & make new friends all the time. I take teaching VERY seriously & I do care about each & every one of my students. I remember what it was like being a shy nervous kid taking lessons, like it was yesterday. I want to help each student build the confidence & self assurance that taking music lessons can provide. My goals for each student are to learn the value of discipline & the results that hard work can provide - not only for their guitar playing, but in their life too.
